Method · EMDR

# EMDR therapy in Utah for trauma & PTSD .

EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — is one of the most studied treatments for trauma we have. It works because it gives your brain a way to do what it normally does in REM sleep: take what happened, move it from the alarm bell to the shelf, and let the body finally exhale.

You might recognize this

## Some of this sounds familiar .

Something keeps coming back uninvited — an image, a smell, a sentence, a feeling in your chest.

You’ve already talked about it in therapy before, maybe years ago, and it still hits like it just happened.

Your body reacts before you do — heart rate, breath, jaw — to triggers you intellectually know are safe.

You’ve been told you have PTSD, or you’ve quietly wondered if you do.

How I help

## The work, unhurried .

We start with stabilization — sleep, grounding, resourcing — so reprocessing is safe. Then we work through targets in a structured 8-phase model, using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or tones) to help the memory move.

Most sessions are 50 minutes; some EMDR-focused sessions run 60–90 minutes when that fits the work. You stay in control the whole time — we can pause, slow down, or switch to grounding whenever you need.

EMDR doesn't erase what happened. It changes how it lives in your body — fewer intrusions, less reactivity, more room for the rest of your life.

If EMDR isn't the right fit, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is another option I offer — often image-based and frequently faster. We'll pick the approach that fits you, not the other way around.

FAQ

## Common questions .

Do I have to talk about every detail of what happened? +

No. EMDR works at the level of the memory image, body sensation, and belief — not narrative retelling. Many people describe details only briefly or not at all.

How many sessions does EMDR take? +

It depends on whether we're treating a single event or layered, repeated trauma. Single-incident work can move noticeably in 6–12 sessions; complex trauma takes longer. We measure progress together as we go.

Can EMDR be done over telehealth? +

Yes. We use on-screen bilateral stimulation or self-tapping protocols designed for telehealth, which research supports as effective.

The memory stays.
The grip it has on you doesn't have to.
