Most of the responders I see didn't go looking for a problem with substances — they went looking for sleep, a way to come down, or three hours of not feeling it. Eventually the thing that worked stops working, and then it starts costing more than it gave. That's usually when people land here. You can’t come down without it — alcohol after shift, edibles before bed, something for the drive home. You’ve quietly moved the line a few times — only on days off, only after the kids are down, only on Sundays. You’re scared to bring it up at work because once it’s said, it’s in the air. Underneath the substance is something you already know: a call, a loss, a season you never processed. How I help ## The work, unhurried . We treat the substance and what's under it at the same time. That means honest, non-shaming work on use patterns alongside EMDR or ART for the trauma the substance is managing. I don't require sobriety to begin. I will ask you to be honest about use so we can do real work — not to judge it, but because guessing wastes your money. Confidentiality matters extra here. This is a private LCMHC practice — not your EAP, not contracted with your department. The limits are spelled out in writing at intake and we'll talk through them in plain language. If a higher level of care (medical detox, IOP, residential) is the right call, I'll say so and help you find it.
