Who I help · Nurses

# Therapy for nurses in Utah.

You can move through a 12-hour shift making one urgent decision after another, then discover that your mind is still at the hospital long after you leave. A code, a death, a family conversation, or a shift without enough staff can follow you home. Therapy gives you a private place outside your hospital system to work through what the job asks you to carry.

You might recognize this

## Some of this sounds familiar.

A code or death returns when the room is quiet, even though you stayed composed during the shift.

Short staffing leaves you making impossible choices and carrying moral distress afterward.

You keep thinking about one patient after clocking out, reviewing what happened and what you could have changed.

Alcohol or pills have become the quickest way to come down, sleep, or stop thinking after work.

You worry that asking for support could touch your license, reputation, or job.

How I help

## The work, unhurried.

You do not have to prove that a shift was bad enough. We can begin with what still feels present and build a steady way to approach it.

Nursing can require deep attention while leaving little time to register your own response. You may move from a death to the next room, complete the chart, and keep functioning because patients still need you. The reaction can arrive later as broken sleep, numbness, anger, dread before work, or a memory that will not settle. Therapy creates time to notice those responses without asking you to stop being capable.

Moral distress can develop when you know what good care should look like but staffing, time, or circumstances make it impossible to provide. The pain is not simply being busy. It can involve responsibility, grief, and a sense that you were placed in a situation with no good option. We can name that conflict honestly and separate what was yours to carry from what was never under your control.

For shifts or patient memories that replay, I may use EMDR or Accelerated Resolution Therapy. These are structured approaches for working with distressing memories. You do not have to give every clinical detail or retell the whole event. We establish enough steadiness first, choose a clear target together, and move at a pace that fits your current capacity.

If alcohol or pills have become part of how you come down, that can be discussed without shame. Sobriety is not required to begin therapy. The work can look at both the immediate pattern and what the substance has been helping you avoid, mute, or survive. If your needs are beyond what outpatient individual therapy can safely support, we will talk directly about a higher level of care.

Privacy deserves a direct conversation. This practice is separate from your hospital or health system and is not an EAP. Care is confidential under HIPAA and Utah law, with the limits explained at intake. You can raise questions about work, licensing, records, or confidentiality during the free consultation so you can decide what feels right for you.

Solution-focused work keeps therapy connected to the week in front of you: how to transition out of a shift, protect sleep, talk with people at home, or notice when your body is still braced for the next alarm. The aim is not to make you less caring. It is to help the job take up less space when you are no longer at work.
