Who I help · Physicians and residents

# Therapy for physicians and residents in Utah.

You are accustomed to being the person with an answer. Being the patient can feel unfamiliar, exposed, or simply impossible to fit into the schedule. A difficult outcome may replay while residency pressure, attending responsibility, sleep loss, and self-medication stay hidden behind competent work. This is private therapy outside your health system.

You might recognize this

## Some of this sounds familiar.

A bad outcome returns after hours, followed by another review of every decision you made.

Residency or attending pressure leaves no clear place to admit that you are not doing well.

You are able to care for patients while postponing your own sleep, grief, anger, or fear.

Alcohol, pills, or another substance has become a way to shut down after staying controlled all day.

Questions about privacy, credentialing, or your professional standing keep you from making a call.

How I help

## The work, unhurried.

You can bring clinical precision into the room without having to turn your own experience into another problem to solve alone.

Physicians are trained to assess, decide, and keep moving. That stance can be lifesaving at work and isolating everywhere else. When you are the one struggling, it may feel safer to analyze the problem than to experience it. Therapy can hold both: a clear understanding of what is happening and enough space to recognize the personal cost without reducing you to a diagnosis or a role.

A poor outcome, unexpected death, error, or near miss can stay active long after the chart is closed. Your mind may revisit the sequence, search for a different decision, or react to reminders in later cases. Responsibility and grief can become tangled together. We can work with the memory while also making room for the limits, uncertainty, and human weight present in medicine.

EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy are structured options for memories that continue to replay. You do not have to narrate every detail. Before processing, we establish pacing and ways to stay grounded, then decide together what to address. Solution-focused work can support the immediate concerns around sleep, transitions after work, substance use, and the relationships receiving whatever remains after the day.

If you have been self-medicating, honesty matters more than arriving with a completed plan. Sobriety is not required before therapy begins. We can consider what the substance changes for you, what it costs, and what sits underneath the pattern. When a higher level of care is needed, that conversation will be direct and focused on helping you identify an appropriate next step.

This practice is private and is not part of your hospital system or an EAP. Care is confidential under HIPAA and Utah law, with narrow limits explained at intake. I do not provide legal advice about credentialing questions. You are welcome to raise specific privacy and credentialing concerns during the free consultation so you understand the practice before deciding whether to schedule.

Therapy does not require you to stop being a physician in order to be a person. You can ask exact questions, take time before trusting the process, and decide what belongs in the room. The work can remain practical while addressing the deeper experiences that competence and endurance have not resolved.

FAQ

## Common questions.

Is this connected to my health system? +

No. This is a private practice, not an EAP, and not contracted with a hospital, department, or agency.

Can you advise me about credentialing questions? +

I do not provide legal advice. The limits of confidentiality are explained at intake, and you can raise your specific questions during the free consultation before deciding whether to schedule.

Do I have to describe a bad outcome in detail? +

No. EMDR and ART do not require you to narrate every detail. You choose what to share, and the work moves at a pace that fits.

Can I begin if I am still using alcohol or pills to cope? +

Yes. Sobriety is not required to begin. Use can be discussed honestly alongside the stress, memory, or pressure it has been helping you manage.

You are allowed to be more than the person who knows what to do next.
