Who I help

Who I work with.

I work with people who carry weight for a living: police officers, firefighters, paramedics and EMTs, 911 dispatchers, corrections officers, nurses, and physicians. I also work with the spouses, partners, and family members who live alongside that work. Pick your line of work below, or read on for what all of it has in common.

By line of work

The common thread

The jobs are different. The weight is similar. You are the person others call on the worst day of their lives, and you are expected to stay steady, do the job, and show up for the next one. Over time, that can leave a mark: sleep that breaks early, a short fuse at home, a drink that turns into a routine, or a call you still think about years later.

None of that means you are weak or in the wrong job. It means you have been exposed to more than most people ever see, often without a real chance to process it. That is what therapy is for. It gives you a place to set some of it down, and practical tools for the parts of life that are taking the hits.

What therapy looks like here

I use EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and solution-focused therapy. EMDR and ART are structured ways to work on the specific memories that keep replaying, without having to retell every detail. The solution-focused side keeps the work tied to real life: sleeping through the night, being present with your family, cutting back or stopping drinking.

Much of this work overlaps with PTSD and trauma therapy and addiction counseling. You can see all of it on the specialties page.

Confidentiality

This is a private practice. It is not an EAP, and it is not contracted with any department, agency, or hospital. Care is confidential under HIPAA and Utah law. The limits of confidentiality are explained at intake, and your information is not shared without your written consent, outside those legal limits.

Sessions are self-pay at $150 for 50 minutes, with an out-of-network superbill on request that you choose whether to submit. If this is the question on your mind, read will my department find out I'm in therapy?

Family and partners

If you are married to the job by way of someone you love, the strain is real for you too. The missed holidays, the silence after a hard shift, the worry about the drinking. I offer individual counseling for spouses, partners, and family members. I don't offer couples sessions, but individual work can help you understand what you are living with and decide what you need.

You do not have to fit a stereotype

There is no single way this work is supposed to affect you. You may still enjoy the job and want help with one call. You may be thinking about leaving, adjusting to retirement, or wondering whether drinking has become too central to the week. You may be the spouse who has kept the household moving while someone else carries the title. Therapy can begin with the part that is most present for you, without asking you to prove that it is serious enough.

The details of your role matter, but you are more than your job. We can talk about identity, grief, trust, family strain, and the habits that helped you get through. The work stays individual and private. It is not a department program, an employer evaluation, or couples counseling. It is a place where you can decide what you want to understand and what needs to change.

Where and how

I see people in person in Midvale and by telehealth anywhere in Utah. Telehealth works well around rotating shifts and long drives. I am licensed in Utah only. See service areas for the Utah cities covered in person and by telehealth.
